NHL Jersey Sizing by Height
Your NHL jersey will fit bigger than your normal clothes. That is the case for all types of NHL jerseys. As we discussed above, there are 3 types of NHL jerseys to choose from:
- Adidas Authentic
- Adidas Practice
- Fanatics Breakaway
In 2017, Adidas became the NHL’s official outfitter for on-ice uniforms and other licensed apparel. If you want to dress like the pros, you will need to buy an Adidas Authentic jersey.
One unique thing about the NHL apparel contract is although Adidas has the contract to be the official outfitter, they don’t have the contract to make the replica jerseys. That, instead, goes to Fanatics. The Fanatics Breakaway jersey is the NHL’s replica jersey.
Adidas Authentic Jersey
The Adidas Authentic jerseys are the closest you can get as a fan to wearing what the players wear on the ice. Authentic jerseys will have all the premium design features, including stitched graphics.
The Adidas Authentic jerseys use a numerical-based sizing system instead of the standard small-medium-large. Here is how it works per their official size chart:
- 42 = XXS
- 44 = XS
- 46 = S
- 50 = M
- 52 = L
- 54 = XL
- 56 = XXL
- 60 = 3XL
Adidas Authentic NHL Jersey Sizing by Height
This is the back length, in inches, for each size of Adidas Authentic jersey (per the official size chart):
- Size 42 – 31.5″
- Size 44 – 32.25
- Size 46 – 33
- Size 50 – 33.25
- Size 52 – 34
- Size 54 – 34.25
- Size 56 – 34.5
- Size 60 – 35.5
I ordered and own a size 50 because I normally wear a size medium in shirts. This is my size 50 Adidas Authentic compared to a medium Hanes undershirt straight out of the package:
As you can see, the size 50 is much larger and longer than a medium Hanes t-shirt. This, of course, is not shocking since NHL jerseys are made large so that they can be layered.
Here is a look at me wearing a size 50 Adidas Authentic jersey. I am 6’3″ 200 pounds:
As you can see, a size 50 has plenty of length even for me at 6’3″. If you are worried about the Adidas Authentic jersey being too long, it probably would be best to just size down.

Fanatics Breakaway Jersey
The Fanatics Breakaway jerseys are the official replica jersey of the NHL. Replica jerseys lack some of the premium design features of the authentic jerseys, but overall look very similar, and have a more affordable price point.
The Fanatics Breakaway jerseys use a standard small-medium-large sizing system (remember, the Adidas jerseys use numerical sizing). Still, expect these Fanatics jerseys to run bigger than normal clothing.

***Please note that the Fanatics Breakaway jerseys list the front jersey length while the Adidas jerseys list the back jersey length. This obviously can lead to different numbers. We have a comparison photo below to give you a better idea how they compare.

Adidas Practice Jersey
