Mitchell and Ness Authentic Jersey Review (How Mine Fits)

This is a Mitchell and Ness Authentic Jersey review. Mitchell and Ness makes classic throwback jerseys for the NBA. For example, these are my favorite classic throwback jerseys available in the Mitchell and Ness Authentic (affiliate link takes you to NBAStore.com):

  • The Kobe Bryant Authentic rookie “8” throwback 96-97 Los Angeles Lakers jersey (see picture here)
  • The Michael Jordan classic Authentic throwback 97-98 Chicago Bulls jersey (see picture here)
  • The Lebron James rookie Authentic throwback 03-04 Cleveland Cavaliers jersey (see picture here)
  • The Kevin Durant rookie Authentic throwback 07-08 Seattle SuperSonics jersey (see picture here)
  • The Steph Curry rookie road Authentic throwback 09-10 Golden State Warriors jersey (see picture here)
  • The Allen Iverson rookie Authentic 96-97 Philadelphia 76ers jersey (see picture here)

I own and review all the NBA jersey types (Nike, Mitchell and Ness, Fanatics). Even though I really like the Mitchell and Ness Authentic jerseys because they make awesome throwbacks, if you are looking for the jersey of a current player, you will not be able to find current players available in the Mitchell and Ness Authentic jersey style.

This is the jersey type I recommend if you are shopping for the jersey of a current player. In my opinion it has the best combination of comfort, quality, and style (affiliate link takes you to NBAStore.com).

The Mitchell and Ness Authentic jersey was the one NBA jersey that I had to size up. In this Mitchell and Ness Authentic jersey review, we will discuss Mitchell and Ness Authentic sizing and fit, and talk about the quality of the jersey (including photos of the Mitchell and Ness Authentic jersey that I own).

Mitchell and Ness Authentic Jersey Sizing and Fit

In this part of the Mitchell & Ness Authentic Jersey Review we will discuss both the fit and the sizing of the Mitchell & Ness Authentic jersey. Let’s start by discussing how the jersey fits.

***Please Note: The Mitchell and Ness Authentic sizing and fit may vary depending on the era the jersey is from. Mitchell and Ness is tasked with having to produce authentic throwbacks from several different eras of the NBA, so understand that sizing and overall fit may be a bit different depending on what jersey you order. In the sections below, I will describe how the jersey I own fits – this fit may not translate to all Mitchell and Ness Authentic jerseys.

How do Mitchell and Ness Authentic Jerseys Fit?

Mitchell and Ness Authentic jerseys have a very slim fit, and I did have to size up. I normally wear a medium (size 40), but for the Mitchell and Ness Authentic jersey I had to size up to a 44.

The jersey’s material has a comfortable feel to it. The material has that classic jersey construction, and the rib-knit collar and sleeve hems did not irritate my skin in any way.

The Mitchell and Ness Authentic jerseys use a numerical sizing system instead of small-medium-large sizing. According to the official size charts (and the jock tags on the jerseys) this is how the sizing works for the Mitchell and Ness Authentic jerseys:

  • Size 36 = Small
  • Size 40 = Medium
  • Size 44 = Large
  • Size 48 = XL
  • Size 52 = XXL
  • Size 56 = 3XL
  • Size 60 = 4XL
  • Size 64 = 5XL

I usually wear a size medium (and wear a size medium in all other NBA jerseys). For example, here I am wearing a medium t-shirt (first photo) and a size medium Mitchell and Ness Swingman (second photo):

(6’3″ 200 pounds)

The second photo is my Mitchell and Ness Swingman jersey (a different jersey type than the Mitchell and Ness Authentic). As you can see, the Mitchell and Ness Swingman jerseys fit slim, but it was not so slim that I had to size up.

The Mitchell and Ness Authentic jerseys, however, were even slimmer, so I did have to size up to a large (size 44). Here is my original size 40 Mitchell and Ness Authentic (which is listed as the equivalent to a medium) sitting on top of my Mitchell and Ness Swingman size medium:

As you can see the Mitchell and Ness size 40 (which is supposed to be a medium) runs about an inch slimmer through the chest and stomach than the size medium Mitchell and Ness Swingman jerseys.

Because the Swingman jersey itself runs slim, the Authentic sizing was just too slim for me and I had to size up to a size 44, which is the equivalent (per their size chart) of a large.

Here is that original size 40 (which was to be a medium equivalent) compared to a Hanes medium undershirt straight out of the package:

As you can see, it was slimmer than the Hanes t-shirt. I had to size up to a size 44. Here is a look at me wearing the size 44 (the jersey I size up to):

Now, one challenge that Mitchell and Ness does have is they have to produce classic throwback jerseys from several different eras, which means several different jersey types.

There is a possibility that some forms of Mitchell and Ness Authentics may be slimmer or looser than others, but in general (based on my experience) I would recommend sizing up.

If you prefer a very loose fit, you may need to size up 2 sizes to get the fit you desire.

Mitchell and Ness Authentic Jersey Sizing

This is where you can access the official size chart for the Mitchell and Ness Authentic jerseys. That affiliate link takes you to a Mitchell and Ness authentic product page at NBAStore.com where the official size chart will be linked above the available sizes.

Another thing to note is the Mitchell and Ness jerseys do have plenty of length and do not run short. Some jerseys available in the Mitchell and Ness Authentic may have a drop tail in the back. Mine did not. This will depend on era and jersey style.

To summarize the Mitchell and Ness Authentic jersey sizing and fit:

  • Comfort – The Material has that classic jersey feel to it and overall the jersey did not irritate my skin in any way.
  • Fit – The Mitchell and Ness Authentic jersey runs very slim, and I had to size up. If you prefer a loose jersey, you may need to size up twice.
  • Sizing – The jersey does have some extra length built in, so keep that in mind when ordering.

Features

  • Sewn-on numbers, letters, and logos, including an embroidered NBA logo
  • Classic Jock Tag which also features the year and player name of the jersey (photos below)
  • Climacool® fabric that is very comfortable against the skin

I had to size up to a size 44 (large) even though I generally wear size medium. The Mitchell and Ness Authentic jerseys have a slim fit, and I recommend sizing up.

Jock Tag

This is a look at the jock tag of the original jersey I bought, which I had to return for a size 44. As you can see the jock tag features the Mitchell and Ness Authentic badge, and also has the year and player name above the jock tag.

vs Nike

Here is a look at the original size 40 (medium) Mitchell and Ness Authentic jersey I owned sitting on top of a size 40 Nike Authentic. The Nike Authentic jerseys have a slim fit to mimic the fit the players wear, but as you can see, the Mitchell and Ness Authentic was about an inch or two slimmer through the stomach than even the Nike Authentic was. It was just too slim so I had to size up.

Mitchell and Ness NBA Authentic Jersey Review: Summary

The Mitchell and Ness Authentic jerseys are an awesome way to rep a classic throwback jersey of your favorite past player or team. Mitchell and Ness Authentics are some of the most coveted pieces of NBA fan apparel. Because of that, there are fakes out there, so make sure you buy from a trusted source.

The Mitchell and Ness Authentic jerseys may vary depending on the era the jersey is from. Mitchell and Ness is tasked with having to produce authentic throwbacks from several different eras of the NBA, so understand that sizing may be a bit different depending on what jersey you order.

My jersey (94-95 Orlando Shaq throwback) fit so slim that I had to size up. My recommendation is to size up at least one size, and to size up 2 sizes if you prefer a very baggy fit. It is also important to note that the Mitchell and Ness Authentic jerseys have plenty of length built in.
