What are Swingman Shorts?
Again, there are different types of NBA Nike shorts (Swingman, Courtside, Therma Flex, Practice). Please quickly click through this link to go to NBAStore.com to view the exact type of NBA Nike shorts I am reviewing in this article to avoid confusion (affiliate link takes you to NBAStore.com).
Nike Swingman shorts are replica shorts of what the players wear during games. NBA Nike Courtside shorts and NBA Nike Therma Flex shorts, although NBA-themed with logos, are not replicas of what the players wear during games.
How Much Do Nike Swingman Shorts Cost?
This is the current price of the Nike Swingman shorts at NBAStore.com (affiliate link takes you to NBAStore.com). The price of the Nike Swingman shorts can fluctuate depending on time of year and sales discounts.
How do Nike Swingman shorts fit?
The NBA is trending toward smaller, more fitted shorts, and because of this, you might be wondering if the Nike Swingman shorts (since they are replicas of what the players wear) are more of a fitted short. The answer is no.
The Nike Swingman shorts have a relaxed fit. They are not super baggy, but do not expect a short that hugs your thighs.
Nike addresses the fit of the Swingman shorts in this way: “Standard fit has a relaxed, easy feel.” Overall, I agree with that description.
The waist is reasonable and not too tight. There is a built-in drawstring for tightening. The bottom side hem of the shorts has a vent on both sides to allow for more freedom of movement in the swingman shorts:
The material is made with Nike Dri-FIT ® technology and sweat-wicking double-knit fabric. They are very soft to the touch and very soft against my legs. The hem is thicker, but does not irritate me in any way.
The Nike Swingman shorts have moderate length, but do not run super long. Again, although the trend in basketball is for shorter-fitting shorts, that trend is not passed through to the Swingman short.
Expect average length. According to NBAStore.com, the size medium swingman shorts have an approximate 8 inch inseam.
I am 6’3″ tall, and own a size medium. The shorts hit about an inch above the top of my knees:

Do Nike Swingman Shorts Have Pockets?
I wanted to address this specifically, because there seems to be some confusion depending on which website you visit whether or not the Nike Swingman shorts have pockets. There are some descriptions of the shorts online that say that there are side seam pockets. Do Nike Swingman shorts have pockets?
No, the pair of Nike Swingman shorts that I own do not have any pockets. There are no side seam pockets (or any type of pocket) on my Swingman shorts.
There may be certain editions of the Nike Swingman in the past that have had pockets. I can only tell you for certain that the pair of Nike Swingman shorts I own do not have pockets.
If you are unsure about the pockets in a pair of shorts you are interested in, contacting customer service prior to purchase is your best bet.
If you prefer shorts to have pockets, Nike does make some NBA shorts with pockets. These are the shorts I would recommend if you are wanting a pair of NBA shorts with pockets (affiliate link takes you to NBAStore.com).
***Don’t forget, we also review the Nike Swingman jersey pictured below. Out of all the NBA fan jerseys, the Nike Swingman (in my opinion) is the best. NBA Nike Swingman Shorts Review: Photos
Here are photos of the size medium Nike Swingman shorts that I own. I am 6’3″ tall.
On the front of the Nike Swingman shorts you can see the team logo, the NBA logo, and the Nike Logo. There is also a team logo on the waistband. The sides have vents for freedom of movement.
Standard back with no logos.
Graphics are heat sealed using sublimation.
Waistline has a drawstring. Elastic is not too tight, but I did not need to use the drawstring to keep the shorts in place.
NBA Nike Swingman Shorts Review: Summary
The Nike Swingman shorts are very comfortable to wear. They are made with Nike Dri-FIT ® technology and stretch material that makes them soft and flexible.
Don’t expect these shorts to be fitted. They have a relaxed fit, so if you prefer a shorter, more fitted pair of shorts, you may have to size down.
The size mediums have an 8 inch inseam, and overall I would describe the length as standard (not too long, not too short). Despite some descriptions on other websites claiming that the Swingman shorts have pockets, I can confirm that my Swingman shorts do not have any pockets whatsoever.
