Nike vs Majestic MLB Jerseys (my comparison w/ pics)

In this article we will compare Nike vs Majestic MLB Jerseys. In 2020, Nike took over as the official uniform and footwear supplier of Major League Baseball. Prior to Nike, Majestic had been the official uniform provider.

Nike makes both the authentic and replica fan jerseys. They also make cool throwback jerseys, called the Nike Cooperstown Collection. Quickly, here’s what you need to know about MLB jerseys:

  • Nike Authentic Jerseys – This is the closest you can get to wearing what the players wear. Embroidered graphics and authentic paneling. This is the most premium MLB fan jersey you can buy. These use numerical sizing (44 = Large). Click here to view these Nike Authentic jerseys at MLBShop.com (affiliate link takes you to MLBShop.com).
  • Nike Replica Jerseys – These are a more affordable alternative to the Authentic jerseys. Although they look very similar, they don’t have all the premium finishes that the Authentic jerseys have. Heat-sealed graphics. Great if you are on a tighter budget. Click here to view these Nike Replica jerseys at MLBShop.com (affiliate link takes you to MLBShop.com).
  • Nike Cooperstown Collection – These are awesome throwback jerseys made by Nike. These are a great option, especially if you want to stand out a little bit. A wide variety of past superstars are available. The design features can vary a little jersey to jersey, but overall a very reasonable price point on these. • Mitchell & Ness Throwback Jerseys – These are not Nike jerseys. Mitchell & Ness is famous for making classic throwback sports jerseys. They offer some of the best jersey styles from the history of baseball, and jerseys for some of the games greatest superstars. Cool way to stand out. Although much of the styling and features are similar between the Nike and Majestic MLB jerseys, there are some differences in both design and fit. Let’s take a closer look at some of these differences using photos of the jerseys I own.

Nike vs Majestic MLB Jerseys

If you are shopping for a new MLB jersey, and are wondering about the differences between the Nike vs Majestic jerseys, you are probably most concerned with fit and design. Let’s start by comparing the fit.

Fit

If you’ve owned a jersey before, you know MLB jerseys fit just a little bit looser than normal clothes (I personally do not size down). This mimics the baggy, loose nature of the jerseys the players wear.

The new Nike jerseys have a very similar fit to the old Majestic jerseys (they run just a slight bit bigger that the old Majestic jerseys). Here is a look at my old Majestic Trout jersey sitting on top of my new Nike Yelich jersey. Again, these are both authentic jerseys size 44:

As you can see the new Nike MLB jerseys jerseys run a bit bigger than the old Majestic MLB jerseys. Overall, the sleeve length is similar, but there appears to be a bit more length in the Nike jerseys, as well as some extra room in the chest and stomach.

The size 44 jerseys are listed as a large equivalent per the official size charts. Here I am wearing my size 44 – I am 6’3″ 190:

As you can see, the size 44 has plenty of length for me at 6’3″.

Overall, the difference in fit is quite minimal between the Nike and Majestic jerseys. My suggestion is to order the same sizing in the Nike jerseys as you ordered in the Majestic jerseys. To read more about how the Nike jerseys fit, visit our article How Do Nike MLB Jerseys Fit?

Design

The design of the Nike vs Majestic MLB jerseys is relatively the same, with a few minor changes. First of all, Nike has added their logo patch to the front chest of the jersey:

Previously, Majestic had their patch on the left arm sleeve. Whether or not this is a good thing, I’ll let you be the judge. Just make sure you are expecting the Nike logo on the front of the jersey.

The authentic Nike jerseys stitch on their graphics, just like the Majestic authentics, which of course is expected. The authentic jerseys will be the closest match you can get as a fan to wearing what the players wear on the field (unless you want to buy a real game-worn jersey through an auction). Here is a look at the stitched graphics of the Nike jerseys:

Just like the authentic Majestic jerseys, the new authentic Nike MLB jerseys have the mesh paneling on the back side of the jersey below the belt. I believe the Majestic jerseys called this an “Air Belt”.

This “Air Belt” was incorporated in 2016 when MLB made changes to the jerseys based on, in part, input from the players. This mesh paneling increases air flow and reduces body heat for the players. Here is a look at that paneling on both the Nike Authentic MLB jersey and the old Majestic jersey:

MLBShop.com is the official online shop of Major League Baseball. You can buy from them with confidence knowing you aren’t getting scammed.

Authentic

Click here to buy your authentic Nike MLB jersey at MLBShop.com (affiliate link takes you to MLBShop.com). The authentic jerseys are the more premium version and are the closest you can get as a fan to wearing what the players wear on the field.
