How Do Mitchell and Ness NBA Jerseys Fit? [Sizing Guide]

If you are shopping for a Mitchell & Ness throwback NBA jersey, you are probably wondering how Mitchell and Ness NBA jerseys fit. Mitchell and Ness makes two different types of NBA jerseys: Swingman and Authentic (I own both).

Mitchell and Ness jerseys are very popular because they make classic throwbacks for some of the game’s greatest superstars and most classic jersey styles. These are my 9 favorite Mitchell and Ness throwbacks (affiliate links take you to NBAStore.com):

  • The Kobe Bryant Authentic rookie “8” throwback 96-97 Los Angeles Lakers jersey (see picture here)
  • The Michael Jordan classic Authentic throwback 97-98 Chicago Bulls jersey (see picture here)
  • The Lebron James rookie Authentic throwback 03-04 Cleveland Cavaliers jersey (see picture here)
  • The Kevin Durant rookie Authentic throwback 07-08 Seattle SuperSonics jersey (see picture here)
  • The Steph Curry rookie road Authentic throwback 09-10 Golden State Warriors jersey (see picture here)
  • The Larry Bird throwback Swingman 85-86 Boston Celtics jersey (see picture here)
  • The Allen Iverson rookie Authentic 96-97 Philadelphia 76ers jersey (see picture here)

Below are pictures of the Mitchell and Ness jerseys that I own – the Lakers jersey is a Swingman and the Magic jersey is Authentic. I will use photos from my jerseys to give you a better understanding of fit and features.

It is also important to note that Mitchell and Ness only makes throwback jerseys. If you are wanting the jersey for a current team/player, you will need to buy Nike or Fanatics.

I own all 5 of the NBA jersey types, and this is the jersey I recommend as best NBA fan jersey due to its combination of style and price (affiliate link takes you to NBAStore.com).

How Do Mitchell and Ness NBA Jerseys Fit?

Mitchell and Ness NBA jerseys fit slim. The Mitchell and Ness Swingman jersey fits slim, but I did not have to size up. The Mitchell and Ness Authentic jersey fit so slim that I did have to size up.

My recommendation for the Swingman is if you are in between sizes, or prefer a loose fit, to size up. My recommendation for the Authentic is to size up regardless – if you prefer a loose fit you may have to size up twice.

How Do Mitchell and Ness Swingman NBA Jerseys Fit?

Swingman

(6’3″ 200 pounds size medium)

The Mitchell and Ness Swingman jerseys have a slim fit, but they were not so slim that I had to size up. If you prefer a loose fit, you will need to size up.

The Mitchell and Ness Swingman jerseys have plenty of length built in, so the length of the jersey should not be a problem.

The jersey was snug across the chest, and looser but still slim) through the stomach area. The jersey material has that classic jersey feel. The rib-knit collar and sleeve hems were comfortable and did not bother my skin.

Here is my medium Swingman compared to a medium Hanes undershirt straight out of the package:

This is the current price of the Mitchell and Ness Swingman jerseys at NBAStore.com (affiliate link takes you to NBAStore.com). The Mitchell and Ness Swingman jerseys are more affordable than the Mitchell and Ness Authentic jerseys.

The Mitchell and Ness Swingman jerseys do not have all the premium finishes that the Authentic jerseys have, although I was honestly a bit shocked at how nice the Swingman jerseys were.

They did have many of the same features that the Authentic jerseys had, and in my opinion, the Mitchell and Ness Swingman jerseys give you great value for the price.

*It is important to note that Mitchell and Ness is tasked with making classic throwback jerseys from several different eras in the NBA. This means that certain jerseys may have different features than other jerseys just due to the era the jersey comes from. The features I list below are specific to the jersey I own and may not be true across all Mitchell and Ness Swingman jerseys.

Features

  • Made with 100% Polyester material that is machine washable
  • Stitched on numbers, letters, and logos (on most jerseys)
  • Side splits on bottom hem to allow for freedom of movement
  • Crew neck; Rib-knit collar and arm openings
  • Sewn-on jock tag at bottom hem with team year and player name

How Do Mitchell and Ness Authentic NBA Jerseys Fit?

Authentic

The Mitchell and Ness Authentic jerseys fit very slim – I had to size up. If you prefer a loose fit, you may need to size up two sizes.

Mitchell and Ness Authentic jerseys use a numerical sizing system instead of the standard small-medium-large sizing that the Swingman jerseys use. According to the official size charts (and the jock tags on the jerseys) this is how the sizing works for the Mitchell and Ness Authentic jerseys:

  • Size 36 = Small
  • Size 40 = Medium
  • Size 44 = Large
  • Size 48 = XL
  • Size 52 = XXL
  • Size 56 = 3XL
  • Size 60 = 4XL
  • Size 64 = 5XL

I usually wear a size medium in most everything (including the other NBA jerseys). So I ordered a size 40 initially, but it was very tight through the chest and stomach (I could barely get it on). I returned it for a size 44. Here is a look at my size 44 and how it fits:

Remember, I was able to wear a size medium Swingman even though it is a slim fit. Here I am wearing the size medium Swingman:

But the size 40 Authentic (medium equivalent per size chart), was just too small. I was able to take a picture of the size 40 Authentic before I returned it to compare it to the size medium of the Mitchell and Ness Swingman. Here is a look at the size 40 Authentic on top of the size medium Swingman:

As you can see, the Authentic size 40 on top is about an inch or two slimmer through the chest and stomach areas. It was just too slim so I returned it for a 44. So again, my recommendation is to size up the Mitchell and Ness Authentic jerseys.

*Now, just like I said with the Mitchell and Ness Swingman jerseys, one issue for sizing is Mitchell and Ness is tasked with making jerseys from several different eras of the NBA, so sizing may differ a bit depending on what era your jersey is from.

Mitchell and Ness Authentic jerseys have all the premium finishes and therefore have a higher price point than the Mitchell and Ness Swingman jerseys.
